One of my favorite salsas is Garden Fresh Gourmet Mango Peach Salsa. Garden Fresh has several other excellent salsas, but this is the best. It's refreshing and slightly sweet. I enjoyed mine with 365 Organic Yellow Corn Tortilla Rounds and a Pepsi along the Tennessee River. This was a perfect vegan picnic!
Welcome to Monk Island, a food blog with a new perspective. This blog documents my experiences as a roaming vegan with limited time, money, and resources. I search the land for simple, plant-based meals for one person, and I share those here with you. This blog is for herbivores on the go who don't live in the kitchen, don't have a kitchen, or don't have a home. No politics or extremist rants. Just peace, respect, and veggies.

Brad's Crunchy Kale, Cheeze It Up Flavor
Here's a tasty superfood snack you should try. This has a bold kale flavor with hints of miso and nutritional yeast. There's also a slight smokiness to it, probably from the miso. This Cheeze It Up flavor is a clear winner. These kale chips are very crunchy but delicate. Be careful not to crush the bag or you'll have a bag of delicious crumbs. Another important thing to note is the zip lock bag. That's really convenient for people who like to snack on things all day. If it's this good why not enjoy it all day long?

Sioux City Sarsaparilla
This is another excellent cane sugar sweetened drink. This one is fresh and crisp with a clean finish. There's no need to depend on nasty, slimy, GMO high fructose corn sweetener when there's delicious cane sugar drinks like this.
Rhythm Organic Carrot Sticks With Milo's Tea
I tried Rhythm Organic Carrot Sticks, ranch flavor, for the first time today. The natural carrot flavor is preserved with the hint of ranch flavor. These are very crunchy and tasty. I'm not a big fan of regular raw carrots, but these things are very good. I just wish there was more in each bag. I enjoyed mine with a Milo's sweet tea.

Vegan Fruit And Cheese Platter
I made a vegan version of a fruit and cheese platter. This included strawberries, blueberries, green and red grapes, and a Daiya Cheddar Style Wedge cut into bite-sized cubes.
Home-made Vegan Mexican Rice
Here's a cheap and easy way to make vegan Mexican rice. Get a cheap bag of white rice. As it's cooking, sprinkle in some dried chili peppers. Leave the seeds out unless you like it flaming hot. Add some chili powder, salt, and cumin if you'd like. Then find some leftover Taco Bell sauce. When the rice is fully cooked, squeeze in the sauces and stir it all together. I had some wild cilantro growing in the back yard, so I added that at the last minute. This meal was so cheap it was almost free!
Vegan Hot Dogs With Onion, Pepper, And Mustard
This is Field Roast Frankfurters on vegan buns with chopped onion, green bell pepper, and yellow mustard. For vegans who miss eating meat, or omnivores who want to try vegan substitutes, this is a good product to try. Field Roast Frankfurters tastes very much like the real thing.

Wholly Guacamole Spicy Pico Over Guacamole
For those who can't decide on salsa or guacamole, here's a way to have both. This was great with my tortilla chips.
Annie Chun's Sweet Chili Noodle Bowl
Annie Chun's noodle bowls are very good. There's a few different vegan ones, and I love them all.
