I've just experienced the consumption of an Engine 2 Poblano Black Bean Plant Burger. I am in a state of near-complete satisfaction. My body aches from a long hard day of work, but this meal made the pain fade from my consciousness for a moment. Look at this beautiful stack of veggies!
This was my first time trying the Engine 2 Poblano Black Bean Plant Burger. It's among the best veggie burgers I've eaten. I love the chunky, nutty texture with the crunchy outer edge. The taste is mild but beany with hints of poblano pepper. The almost-dry patty went well with my juicy condiments.
I enjoyed mine with a Rudi's Organic 100% Whole Wheat Hamburger Bun, green leaf lettuce, organic tomato slices, yellow mustard, ketchup, and black pepper. This was a perfect meal!
Welcome to Monk Island, a food blog with a new perspective. This blog documents my experiences as a roaming vegan with limited time, money, and resources. I search the land for simple, plant-based meals for one person, and I share those here with you. This blog is for herbivores on the go who don't live in the kitchen, don't have a kitchen, or don't have a home. No politics or extremist rants. Just peace, respect, and veggies.

Vegan Poutine With Mushroom Gravy
This home-made vegan poutine was made poverty style. It used old potatoes, leftover vegan mushroom gravy, and leftover vegan mozzarella. This was my first attempt to create a poutine basket. I'm satisfied with the results. I'll be making this again.

Vegan Cinnamon Pancakes
With the exception of the burnt one, these were pretty good. I just mixed up some wheat flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, cinnamon, salt, and water. I fried it in my skillet with olive oil then let some Earth Balance melt on top.

All of the Annie Chun's vegan selections are excellent. Look for the V on the packages to try them all. Just remember some Annie Chun's noodle bowls are not vegan.
Ants On A Log
Here's an enjoyable raw vegan snack. Put some natural peanut butter (Ingredients: peanuts, peanut oil, salt) on some freshly washed celery stalks, then top those with plain raisins (Ingredients: raisins). This can be a really good way to make raw vegan food fun for kids.

Dr Pepper with Real Sugar
Dr Pepper with real sugar is available if you know where to get it. It has a cleaner mouthfeel which makes it much more refreshing. And it tastes as good as it did in the 1970s. Look for this in specialty soda pop shops.
People in Texas may be familiar with "Dublin Dr Pepper", which was the original recipe sugar-based Dr Pepper made by The Dublin Dr Pepper Bottling Company in Dublin TX. It was exported long enough for me to try it at Jason's Deli, but legal issues forced its discontinuation. The product shown here is not Dublin Dr Pepper but is said to be made with the same original recipe.
If this is made with the original recipe, it contains Imperial Sugar. Imperial Sugar is listed by PETA as a vegan sugar. Therefore, the original recipe Dr Pepper is assumed to be a vegan product.

Home-made Vegan Not Chicken Pot Pie
Another vegan in the family made this special treat. I can't share the recipe with you because this is not a recipe blog. Sorry. I will tell you this was 100% vegan and tasted just like the classic chicken pot pie your great-grandmother made. Hint: Gardein Chick'n Scallopini and Edward & Sons Not Chick'n Bullion Cubes.
